Marta Ayala
has studied at San Francisco City College, the Arts Institute
Sucre in Venezuela and San Francisco State University, as well
as apprenticing for six years with Susan Cervantes of the Precita
Eyes Mural Center.
Her outdoor mural work appears
in public spaces throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area and
has received community awards for Best Public Art in 1998 and
2001. She was featured in the book, Latin
American Women Artists of the United States by Robert
Henkes (McFarland and Co., Inc. 1999). Many of her public murals
are featured on the San Francisco Mural Walk tours.
Color & Concepts
was started when Marta began accepting private commissions for
indoor and outdoor mural work. Her residential and commercial
design work springs from her belief that original art deserves
to be in everyone's home and business.
"Color
is delicate, healing and magical."
"I work with my clients and
go on a sort of discovery hunt: a discovery of color
that actually makes the client feel total comfort
in the end.
"Some clients know what they
want and some have difficulty expressing their desires.
My job is to spend time presenting options and talking
about color and the magic of it.
"If a color
does not work, it can be changed until we reach
the tint or tone that the client wants and is happy
with."
